This self-piercing valve can draw a water supply from Copper or CPVC piping. This type of self piercing valve will connect to pipe sizes up to 1-1/4" and as small as 3/8".
These valves are a code violation in some areas and over time they can develop leaks when you use it to shut the water off. We always recommend using a John Guest shut-off valve (found below) with the self-piercing valve. This way the self-piercing valve does not have to be used to shut the water off. This recommendation will insure that you receive many years of reliable service from this part.
This way you do not need to use the self-piercing valve to shut the water off. The valve will usually not leak unless you use it as a shut-off.
